Different Types Of Metal Stamps That Are Used With A Stamping Press

Coiled metal or blank sheets of metal are manipulated during a metal stamping process. A metal die is used to bend, bond, or emboss metal. Intricate and basic metal parts can be created through a metal stamping process. A metal stamping manufacturer may design progressive, slide, deep draw, and short-run metal stamps.
Progressive Stamps
Progressive stamps are used for multi-phased stamping projects. A series of stamps are manufactured to support progressive stamping processes. An end-user may rely upon the use of one or more stamping presses when completing a progressive stamping project. Each stamp will be designed to perform an independent task. One stamp may be used to bend a piece of metal, one may be used to bond the edges of the metal together, and one may be used to add a custom design to the metal.
A manufacturer can assess a visual diagram of a proposed metal product and determine how to break down the production process, by creating independent stamps that each are responsible for manipulating the metal in a unique manner. Each stamp will ultimately be used in succession, allowing an end-user to acquire a unique metal shape and design that is relative to the product that is being manufactured.
Slide Stamps
Slide stamps consist of multiple stamps that are designed to be used simultaneously. The stamps are all inserted into a stamping press. Afterward, they are applied to a piece of metal. This type of stamping process is efficient and will not waste valuable time. A manufacturer of a slide stamp product will create each stamp, based upon one or more of the features that a finished metal product will possess.
Deep Draw And Short-Run Stamps
A deep draw stamp design will press into a metal product that has been formed into a shape. A blank piece of metal that is fed into a die press will be manipulated into a shape, prior to having a deep draw metal stamp press firmly into it. A manufacturer will acquire details about the finished design and will make one die piece that can be used to mass-produce the design.
A short-run stamp design is used for basic metal forming tasks. This type of stamp may be used for small manufacturing processes or for ones that will require metal pieces to contain a fairly basic design. A manufacturer of a short-run metal stamp will prepare a single stamp piece that can be used for stamping purposes.
